Measurement Guide

Measuring up for your handrails is a very simple process, be it a front doorstep rail or a fancy balustrade.

The first thing to decide is how it is to be fixed into position, if you are after a handrail for a front doorstep and you have a suitable wall next to the door frame for mounting the top bracket on then this is the best place to fix it. We call this wall mounted, if no suitable wall fixing is available the top mounting will have to be mounted on the step, This top leg can be bolted down using a foot plate provided the step is solid enough. We call this ‘freestanding’. The ‘lower’ or front leg can be bolted down similarly if a suitable surface is present. Alternatively, the leg or legs can be sunk into the ground and set in concrete. We call this ‘into ground’ this is the easiest and most sturdy way to fix any handrail and all you have to do is dig! The next step is measuring your steps, simply measure the length and height or each step (not including any overhang). Easy!

All we need to make your handrail or balustrade is those measurements, the fixing types and your choice of style/design.
